A dim deep-sea observatory looking through a wide curved window into a dark blue canyon, where glowing turquoise and violet jellyfish drift past a school of fish; on the desk, a small lamp, a mug, an open sketchbook of jellyfish and a tablet showing one.

The Abyss Observatory

A research station on the deep ocean floor, watching the dark through panoramic windows.

About The Abyss Observatory

Kilometres below the surface, a research station rests on the ocean floor. Through its panoramic windows, the blue fades into black; marine snow drifts past, and now and then a bioluminescent creature glides by. Deep drones and minimal textures fill the quiet: a place for slow, deep thought.

Kilometres below the surface, a research station rests on the ocean floor. Through its wide observation window the blue fades into black. Floodlights reveal drifting marine snow, and now and then a jellyfish or some smaller creature glows softly in the dark before slipping away.

The sound is the slowest of all the worlds: deep, evolving drones, minimal textures and a few distant notes, with the muffled pressure of the ocean around the hull. Almost nothing happens, and that is the point. It suits deep focus, meditation, slow thinking and sleep.
